Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What type of events do you normally speak at?
A. I speak at many different events, but especially at schools with strong programs in any of the arts. Since the principles I teach are equally applicable to persons aspiring to all of the arts, mixed groups of different disciplines are encouraged.
Q. If we count the artistic occupations of your children, it adds up to at least six; do you really have that many children?
A. Yes, my wife and I set out to have a large family right from the outset. And a matter of fact, we have eight children and they’ve all turned their hands to one or other of the arts. We’re very proud of them.
Q. How can we reduce the costs to bring you to our event?
A. The easiest way to reduce costs is to get a nearby sister institution to also book me to speak on the same day or 24 hour period. That way, travel and other expenses can be shared and the originating institution will also receive a discount on my fees. Please also see my Fundraising Section.
Q. What kind of travel expenses are we talking about?
A. Roundtrip coach airfare from Kingston, Ontario, plus ground transportation, meals, and hotel. For instance, return coach airfare from Kingston to Vacouver is $1,577, to New York is $1,205, Los Angeles is $1,973. Your recommendations on local accommodations that will save money, will be considered when arrangements are made.
Q. What are your fees?
A. I charge $800 for a keynote address (see my Programs page) and $1100 for a two-hour mini seminar, and $1400 for a day-long seminar (your best value).
Q. Are there other ways to defray those costs?
A. Yes. If your bookstore or other department wants to undertake to sell my books and art prints at my speaking event, I will split the profits. Another excellent way is to make my speaking event open to the public and charge admission (you keep all of it). Your students can attend free by showing their student card. There are often many high school students and their parents in any community who are anxious to hear my talks.
