Speaking Programs

"Success in the Arts:
What It Takes to Make It in Creative Fields"

Michael's speaking programs are dynamic and full of humor. These presentations apply equally to anyone in or entering any career in the arts: acting, music, visual art, filmmaking, dancing, photography or writing.

• What factors contribute most to success in the arts?
• How do you know if you have enough talent?
• What do you need besides talent?
• What are common myths about creativity?
• What is real creativity and how do you cultivate it?
• How do you deal with criticism?
• How do you “get the breaks” in your field?
• What if you don’t make it?

This presentation can be tailored to fit different time slots, from 60 minutes keynotes to three hour seminars, with or without visuals (plus Q&A session afterwards).

Talks on Graphic Design

Illustration Conceptualizing
There are only four kinds of concepts for illustration in the whole world. Learning what they are can unlock a powerful key for generating concepts on any illustration project.

Branding Conceptualizing and the Seven Deadly Sins of Logo Design
Designing logos and corporate identities is a foundational activity for many graphic designers. Again, there are only four different kinds of corporate identities (not the same ones for illustration, though). Learn what they are and then learn the "Seven Deadly SIns of Logo Design."

Program Costs

60 to 90 minute keynote (with or without visuals)                     $800
2 to 3 hour mini seminars with Q&A (with or without visuals $1100

How to reduce costs
Frankly, I'd almost speak for free, but the travel is exhausting. A typical speaking engagement takes three days out of my schedule (one day to get there, one day for the event, one day to return). The best way to reduce costs is to find another nearby sister institution that also will book me to speak on the same day or the day before or after your engagement. This doubles the part I like (speaking) and dilutes the part I hate (traveling). It also means that travel expenses (often the larger part of overall expenses) are split between two budgets instead of just yours and I'll even throw in a "finder's fee" of $300 to you for getting the other speaking engagement. That really reduces your total costs. I win. You win.
